The Cause of Back Pain
Is as individual as the person who has it.
Muscular back pain can be caused by:
- Sitting slouched for long periods of time
- Working on a surface that is too low
- Standing on a hard surface all day in poor shoes
- Bending and twisting
- Sudden injuries in work, sports, or at home
- Lifting children
- Gaining or losing large amounts of weight suddenly

Spinal back pain may be caused by:
- Hereditary curves or imbalances in the spine
- Degenerative arthritis of the vertebrae
- Referred pain from internal organs
- Subluxations or "bones out of place"
- Osteoporotic fractures
- Diseases or infections of the bones
Nerve-related back pain can come from:
- Ribs twisting and pinching the nerves that run between them
- Discs bulging and pinching nerves
- "Pinched nerves" in the neck and back are most commonly not nerves at all, but rather muscles that have gone into severe, sudden spasm.
The Good News is that 2% or less of lower back pain requires surgery. Surgery has only short-term benefits, and the costs of surgery are over $30,000. Compare this to the costs of chiropractic care at Whole Health Clinic, and you'll see one of the reasons why our patients appreciate our care so much!
